The Mural Movement

Mission

The Mural Movement is a Chicago-born, nationwide public art and community impact initiative dedicated to using art as a catalyst for connection, healing, and direct action. Founded in 2020, our mission is to beautify public spaces, amplify community voices, and reinvest in the neighborhoods we serve through large-scale murals, cultural activations, and year-round community initiatives.

To date, The Mural Movement has led 235+ murals and art activations nationwide, including 100+ murals rooted in Pilsen, the neighborhood where our work began. Each mural is created with intention and community involvement, transforming walls into visual stories that honor local history, resilience, and identity.

But our work extends far beyond the wall.

The Mural Movement is deeply committed to direct community giveback and long-term empowerment, serving thousands of Chicago residents annually through food pantries, food and grocery giveaways, back-to-school drives, annual turkey drives, toy drives, and emergency relief efforts. These initiatives are rooted in dignity, accessibility, and care meeting immediate needs while strengthening community trust and support.

We also lead Operation Buyout, an initiative designed to support and uplift local vendors and small businesses by purchasing inventory directly and reinvesting funds back into the neighborhood economy. Operation Buyout reinforces our belief that community impact includes economic empowerment, not just programming.

Our commitment to youth and women’s empowerment lives through Big Sis Club, a mentorship initiative created to provide a safe, affirming space for girls ages 13–19. Through Big Sis Club, we center self-confidence, self-love, life skills, and exposure to women leaders and role models doing impactful work.

We proudly collaborate with cultural leaders, athletes, and institutions who share our commitment to community impact, including the Chicago Bulls, Lyrical Lemonade, Caleb Williams, and the Caleb Williams Foundation. These partnerships allow us to merge art, philanthropy, and visibility to create meaningful change at scale.

Our home base, Vault Gallerie, serves as the heart of our movement a community-centered art gallery and creative hub where murals, mentorship, givebacks, and cultural moments intersect. Through Vault Gallerie, we have hosted artists, organizers, and influential figures such as Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose, reinforcing our belief that art spaces should be accessible, intentional, and rooted in community.

At its core, The Mural Movement is a people-powered ecosystem. We believe art should live in the streets, programs should meet real needs, and culture should be paired with action. Our murals spark pride, our initiatives provide access, and our partnerships expand what’s possible when community is centered at every level.

For the people. By the people. Always.
